Hurricane Katrina Donations

In light of Hurricane Katrina, the American Horse Council Foundation continues to accept donations to assist the needs of horse organizations, owners and their horses in the states which were affected by this natural disaster, particularly Louisiana and Mississippi

The American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association have partnered with the American Horse Council Foundation to raise money for this effort. 100% of the funds for this disaster relief have been and will be passed through to existing established charities and equine organizations to assist with equine rescue, relief, medical care, food, supplies and rebuilding horse community efforts.

An Advisory Committee was formed to review requests and advise on how the financial donations should be allocated. This committee includes representatives of the American Horse Council Foundation Board, the American Horse Council Board of Trustees, American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, and the State Horse Council Advisory Committee.

The Foundation has donated to the following entities:

  • $2,0000 for 181 50 lb bags of sweet feed that was loaded onto trucks that left the Kentucky Horse Park Bound for the USEF Equine Relief Center in Hattiesburg Mississippi
  • $1,000 to the Harrison County Mounted Patrol in Louisiana who were in need of supplies for their horses.
  • $5,000 to the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association for hay distribution to its members
  • $10,000 to the Louisiana Equine Council for equine rescue, medical supplies, food and supplies.
  • $10,000 to the Deep South Paso Fino Horse Association for hay and rebuilding the horse community efforts.
  • $5,000 to Code 3 Associates a non-profit organization that specializes in disaster rescue and relief.
  • $5,000 to Pointe Celeste Therapeutic Riding Center
  • $5,000 to the Louisiana Quarter Horse Association for hay and rebuilding the horse community efforts.

The American Horse Council Foundation will continue to offer assistance to those charities that were impacted by Katrina, in an effort to restore a healthy equine community and industry in this area.
