The American Horse Council Foundation Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund

In light of Hurricane Katrina, The American Horse Council Foundation is accepting donations to assist the needs of horse owners and their horses in the states which were affected by this natural disaster, particularly Louisiana and Mississippi.  The current situation in these states is dire; the people and their horses are in great need of our help.

The Hurricane Katrina Relief fund has raised over $30,000 to date.  Currently, the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association have partnered with the American Horse Council Foundation to raise money for this effort. 100% of the funds for this disaster relief will be passed through to existing established charities and equine organizations to assist with equine rescue, relief, medical care, food, supplies and rebuilding horse community efforts.

Already, the American Horse Council Foundation has donated 181 50lb bags of sweet feed that was loaded onto trucks that left the Kentucky Horse Park Bound for the USEF Equine Relief Center in Hattiesburg Mississippi.  The Foundation has also sent a $1,000 check to the Harrison County Mounted Patrol in Louisiana who were in need of supplies for their horses.

An Advisory Committee is being formed to review requests and advise on how the financial donations should be allocated. This committee will include representatives of the American Horse Council Foundation Board and the American Horse Council Board of Trustees, American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, a Federal Emergency Management Coordinator for United States Department of Agriculture, State Breeders Associations, and the State Horse Council Advisory Committee.  Others with particular expertise are likely to be added.

“This catastrophe has captured the hearts of horse people everywhere.  We feel it is our responsibility as the American Horse Council Foundation to help in any way we can.  We would like to thank to equine community for the generosity we know it will be all too willing to bestow upon this extremely important cause” said Jay Hickey, Foundation President.

The American Horse Council Foundation is a Section 501(c) (3) organization under the internal revenue code.  Contributions to it are tax-deductible as charitable contributions.

If you have any questions or would like to make a donation, please call the American Horse Council Foundation at 202-296-4031.
