2005 Van Ness Award Given to David Petri of Wisconsin

David Petri of the Wisconsin State Horse Council was presented with the 2005 Van Ness Award at the Mid West Horse Fair on April 15, 2005.  This award is given annually to a person in the equine industry who embodies the dedication and service of the late Marjorie Van Ness. Mrs. Van Ness worked tirelessly for the betterment of the horse industry in her home state of New Jersey and was vital in the formation of the New Jersey Horse Council.

“Dave Petri has been a dedicated supporter and advocate for the horse industry for well over 30 years.  He has served as the legislative chairman of the Wisconsin State Horse Council,  he has actively promoted and worked for the Mid-West Horse Fair and has served on the American Horse Council’s Recreation Committee and State Horse Council Advisory Committee”  said Nicole Lamoureux, AHC Chief Operating Officer.

Horses have always been a part of Mr. Petri’s life. From roping and rounding when he was a youngster to giving trail rides and being active with the 4H clubs, he has worked hard for the promotion and protection of the horse industry.

“Dave has worked tirelessly with the AHC recreational committee reviewing legislation and meeting with Members of Congress to ensure that the Horse Industry remains strong and thriving on a national and state level” said Lamoureux.  “Dave is exactly the type of person that this award was made for, one who cares and is willing to work hard for the industry that they love.  We are happy to present him with the 2005 Van Ness Award”

Since its inception in 1990, the Van Ness Award has been generously sponsored by the New Brunswick Horse Show, the New Jersey Horse Council and the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey
