(Washington, DC; June 10, 2019): On Tuesday June 11, 2019 at its annual Congressional reception the American Horse Council (AHC) announced and awarded the inaugural James J. Hickey Jr. Award presented in honor of the past AHC President, “Jay” Hickey, who served from 1993 to 2016. The new award will be presented annually to an individual who has been a great supporter of the horse industry and the American Horse Council.
The 2019 Hickey Award was presented to Thomas “Tad” Davis of Davis & Harman LLP for his outstanding service to the horse industry.
In 1985, Tad joined with Bill Harman to form Davis & Harman LLP. As a founding partner, he specializes in legislative and administrative law issues—particularly in the areas of tax, financial markets and agricultural policy.
Since AHC’s formation in 1969 Tad has authored several editions of the AHC Horse Owners and Breeders Tax Handbook, which is recognized as the leading authority on tax issues relating to the horse industry and been editor the AHC Tax Bulletin.
Hickey was present at the reception to help AHC President, Julie Broadway, present the award to Davis.
